DAY 01 Berlin
A warm welcome awaits you upon your morning arrival at Berlin's Airport and transfer to your hotel. - The afternoon sightseeing tour of Germany's capital shows the main sights, like the sweeping avenue Unter den Linden, its landmark Brandenburg Gate, the former Reichstag which houses now the German Parliament, Checkpoint Charlie, once the crossing point between East and West, the French and German Cathedral, the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Memorial-Church, a reminder of World War II destruction and the lively Kurfuerstendamm with miles of cafes, art galleries, boutiques, antique shops, night clubs and much more! The rest of the day is yours to shop or browse around. -Tonight, join your Tour Director for a welcome reception at the hotel (4 nights-stay at Hotel Mueggelsee).
DAY 02 Excursion: Potsdam
On a short morning drive you arrive at Potsdam to visit Sanssouci Palace, built 1745 during the time of Friedrich the Great. The inside of this elegant and former summer residence will show you a great collection of art treasures. Another nearby attraction will be the impressive park of Cecilienhof, where the Potsdam Agreement was signed 1945 by Truman, Churchill/Attlee and Stalin. Around lunch time return to Berlin and spend the rest of the after-noon at your leisure.

DAY 03 Excursion: Dresden - Meissen - Leipzig
Your day's excursion starts first with a drive to Dresden, formerly known as the "Florence" on the River Elbe, due to its exquisite architecture. Although Dresden was ruthlessly bombed during the war, money has been spent to rebuilt Saxony's metropolis of culture. See the city's Frauenkirche, Hofkirche and the restored opera house Semperoper which saw premieres of Richard Wagner and Strauss. You will visit the Picture Gallery of its Zwinger Baroque palace which houses famous masterpieces of Rubens, Tintoretto, Rembrandt and many others.- Following a lunch break, a short drive downstream brings you to Meissen, world-known for its unique porcelain. See a workshop demonstration and visit its museum with an outstanding collection of Meissen porcelain. - Later, and from here our excursion returns to Berlin by way of trade center Leipzig with a stop. A city orientation drive of Wagner's birthplace will show its old Renaissance City Hall and the Thomaskirche, where for many years com-poser Bach has given concerts.

DAY 04 Excursion: Wittenberg - Weimar
Today's journey stops first at Wittenberg on the River Elbe, which recalls the life, work and annoyance of reformer Martin Luther against the pope in Rome. See the gates of Schlosskirche where he nailed his 95 Theses in 1517 challenging the Catholic Church.- Then, the route continues to Weimar for a lunch break. - The city tour, home of famous personalities, like Lucas Cranach, Bach, Liszt, Goethe, Schiller and Nietzsche, will show you the residential atmosphere of the former German princes. It was here too, that the first but shortlived Weimar Republic was founded in 1919 by the German National Assembly. - Later, a side trip will take you to Buchenwald, one of Germany's former concentration camps, today a reminder of World War II's horror. A museum contains a fascinating collection and a movie theatre will show a film about this camp. - During the afternoon return to your hotel in Berlin.

DAY 05 Berlin - Last day of tour
Following breakfast it's time to leave this Tour of East Germany's Highlights and transfer to Berlin Airport, - or just extend your stay with us!
