Corso Vittorio Emmanuele II
88836 Cotronei (Kr)
An important witness to the history of Cotronei, is the so-called Verga Mansion. Built in the fifteenth century by Teseo Marino, who provided it also with a moat and a drawbridge, it collapsed in 1682, after an earthquake, and remained in ruins until 1720. In that year it passed into the hands of the Filomarino family, who rebuilt it, moving the entrance to the east and making the building less rambling. After about a century the building was sold to the Muzio brothers and Giacinto Verga, who rebuilt and enlarged it once more.
